Here a Lack, There a Lack, Everywhere a Lack Lack

What are you lacking in your life? “Lack” implies something is not complete or missing from life. Is your life incomplete? Are you lacking something?

Hmm….what could that something be?  What do we need in life? Needs are something we have to have. We need food, water, shelter, clothing, and some basic hygiene products.

Do we need more than this?

Of course we do. Basic elements for survival are just that, basic needs.  We have other higher-level needs that are essential to helping us live a good life.

Just like everything else, needs have a counter balance in life.  Wants are something we would like to have. We can want whatever we want. That does not mean we need to get it.

Our culture is built on expanding our perceived needs.  We are attracted to novelty, quick fixes and instant gratification. We are always looking for a bigger piece of pie.

We want a new house. We buy one. Then we repaint the rooms. Redo the window dressings. Buy new furniture. Change the landscaping. Remodel the kitchen. Replace the carpet with hardwood floors.

When does the cycle stop? Did we really want to do all of this?

What did we need in the first place? What were we lacking?

We are emotional human beings who let our emotional selves control our rational selves. We need to satisfy our emotional needs to feel complete.

Perhaps I got the original question all wrong. Let me try again.

What emotional need are you lacking in your life?

Yeah, I get where you're going with this but you know what… I think it's not always just letting our emotional selves control the rational part. It's about customizing, feeling at home (whether that's literally a home or a laptop with stickers), and wanting to be unique. I'm not even disagreeing though because I “agree” with you, just maybe my wording and thoughts are different.

Everyone has a feel, flavor, attachment to everything. Some things are funny (like a blankie) and some are reasonable (house) but all are acted on to make us feel comfortable.

I guess that transitions to learning how to break out of a comfort zone… that's a whole nother animal and a few more blog posts!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts here.

Comfort zones…I make a living helping people bust through these barriers. Writing more about my experience in this area will be beneficial to me and my readers. Thanks for the idea!
